Visit the TOPS Products site
In January of 2016 we launched the transformed TOPS Products e-commerce sites. Vast improvements had taken place, both seen and unseen and set the future of site up for success. TOPS' Design department was now able to continue improving the site, and provide a better customer experience. The company had also evolved, having been exposed to and understood the importance of putting customers first — through my relentless evangelizing of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
Below is the TOPS Products e-commerce site in November of 2014. TOPS was looking to update the site to make it more current. I was brought in to evaluate and recommend a path forward. I agreed that there was a great deal of work to be done.
Once I began to dig into the structure, navigation, user experience, and overall aesthetic of the site, I soon discovered that we were looking at a transformation, not just a refresh. The site was using an outdated build structure of table-based html, no 'modern' CMS in place, and a disconnected navigation. With thousands of products actively on the site, finding solutions for the above were among our first transformation efforts.
After much consideration, user research, and meetings with the Creative Director, Product Managers, and the BI team my first recommendation was to adopt Magento's e-commerce platform and set a project management system in place. InMotion was chosen as our project management system due to its features of request intake, project management, online proofing, approval management, and reporting.
Below are some artifacts from my process.
